Govardhan Puja ~ Annakuta

Tuesday, Oct 25th at 6:00 PM

On Tuesday, Oct. 25th, starting 6:00 PM we will celebrate Govardhan Puja by making a mountain of food (Annakuta) and worshiping Govardhan Hill.

5000 years ago, Lord Krishna saved the residents of Vrindavan village from torrential rains by lifting Govardhan Hill as a huge umbrella and holding it aloft for seven days. On this day every year, we celebrate Krishna’s protection and love for his devotees. Throughout the world, devotees of Krishna offer a mountain of food to Giri Govardhan and circumambulate him with devotion. In Srimad Bhagavatam, Giri Govardhan is glorified as the foremost servant of Lord Krishna. Great saints have praised Govardhan with chosen words and sought his blessings to attain love for the divine couple Sri Sri Radha and Krishna.

Sri Vishvanatha Cakravarti in his Govardhan astakam writes:

vina bhavet kim hari-dasa-varya-

padasrayam bhaktir atah srayami

yam eva saprema nijesayoh sri-

govardhano me disatam abhistam

“Without taking shelter of the feet of the hill that is the best of Lord Hari’s servants and full of love for the divine king and queen, how is it possible to attain pure devotional service? May Govardhan Hill fulfill my desire.”

Please join us on Tuesday, Oct. 25th, at 6:00 PM for the celebrations of Govardhan puja and Annakuta!
